Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist

Dr. Michael D. Wittenberger is a highly sought-after board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and obstetrician/gynecologist who is well known for his gentle, compassionate care and collaborative approach with his patients. He has over 15 years of expertise in treating patients with all manner of reproductive issues including infertility, restorative surgery, and fertility preservation.
Dr. Wittenberger obtained his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University graduating with Highest Distinction within the University Honors Program. He then went on to graduate at the top of his medical school class at the University of Colorado obtaining multiple awards and recognitions along the way including an early induction into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. After medical school, he entered full-time active duty in the United States Navy and completed an internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California before spending five years overseas in Japan caring for and building military families. He subsequently returned to the United States to pursue his passion in reproductive medicine and completed a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the National Institutes of Health. Following fellowship, Dr. Wittenberger served in San Diego at the Naval Medical Center before retiring from active duty after 27 years of service to military families. He was the Head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, an Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Surgery and Obstetrics at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and clinical faculty to the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship at the University of California San Diego.
Dr. Wittenberger received many awards for leadership, teaching and dedicated patient care including both Army and Navy Commendation medals and the Naval Medical Center’s Associate Master Clinician and Master Clinician awards given to the top Navy physicians. In addition to patient care and teaching, he is active in reproductive research having authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed publications. He is a fellow in both the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
