Our LGBTQ+ friendly fertility centers offer IVF for same-sex couples. IVF involves combining the sperm and eggs in a laboratory setting and transferring the embryo back to the uterus. This is one of the oldest and most commonly used options in LGBTQ+ family planning.
During the IVF process, sometimes, one partner will provide the egg, and the other will carry the pregnancy, or surrogates may be engaged to support the fertility journey for intended parent(s). Checking each individual’s hormone levels and performing a hysterosalpingogram (HDG) test will help determine the best option.
Same-sex male couples can undergo IVF using donor eggs and a gestational carrier. One or both partners may provide sperm to create embryos for transfer to the gestational carrier.
Your care team will connect you to reputable agencies that provide egg donors gestational carriers, as well as experienced reproductive attorneys to assist with legal arrangements. Patients also have the option to work with a known or directed egg donor or gestational carrier.

If you are part of a couple involving two individuals with ovaries, you will make two important decisions with regard to fertility: (1) who will provide eggs and (2) who will carry the pregnancy.
Same-sex female couples may choose to conceive through donor IUI or IVF. Your care team will perform a fertility evaluation and help you decide which option is best for you.
IUI involves placing anonymous or known donor sperm inside the uterus of the individual who will carry the baby. Sperm is washed before being placed in the uterus for an increased chance of pregnancy.
With reciprocal IVF, one partner provides eggs, undergoing ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval, and the other carries the pregnancy. Many couples feel this approach allows them both to actively participate in fertility treatment and feel involved in the pregnancy.
Your care team will help facilitate the process of donor sperm selection. If using a non-directed/anonymous donor, we will provide a referral to a reputable sperm bank. For couples using a directed/known donor, we will help navigate the process of medical and psychological evaluation and legal counsel.
