What Is FemaSeed®?

FemaSeed® is a fertility treatment that uses a specially designed catheter to deliver a concentrated sperm sample directly toward the opening of the fallopian tube inside the uterus. Unlike traditional intrauterine insemination, which places sperm in the uterine cavity and relies on them to swim the remaining distance, FemaSeed is engineered to guide sperm closer to where the egg is typically waiting.

This targeted approach is intended to support fertilization by shortening the distance sperm must travel and by focusing placement near a single fallopian tube. The procedure is performed in the office, usually in just a few minutes, and is designed to work in combination with standard fertility medications or monitoring protocols recommended by your physician.

How is FemaSeed® different?

FemaSeed® differs from traditional intrauterine insemination (IUI) in how and where the sperm is placed. In a standard IUI, the sperm sample is prepared and then gently inserted into the uterine cavity, allowing sperm to travel on their own toward both fallopian tubes. With FemaSeed®, a specially shaped catheter is used to direct the sperm closer to the entrance of one fallopian tube, focusing the sample near a specific location where fertilization is more likely to occur.

Who May Benefit From FemaSeed®

In general, FemaSeed® may be discussed for patients who:

Have open fallopian tubes confirmed by appropriate testing.
Have adequate sperm parameters after semen analysis and preparation.
Are exploring options before or alongside IVF, depending on age and overall fertility factors.
Prefer office-based procedures that are minimally invasive and typically quick to perform.

FemaSeed®is not appropriate for everyone. It is generally not used when both fallopian tubes are blocked, in cases of significantly diminished sperm function that may require IVF with ICSI, or when your physician identifies other medical reasons to avoid the procedure. What to Expect During the Procedure

How FemaSeed® Works

The entire FemaSeed® procedure is usually completed in a brief visit, and most patients can return to typical daily activities soon afterward. Your care team will provide specific instructions about medications, timing of intercourse if recommended, and when to schedule follow-up testing to check for pregnancy.

A prepared sperm sample is collected and processed in the laboratory according to your treatment plan.
Your clinician places a thin FemaSeed® catheter through the cervix into the uterus while you are lying on the exam table.
The catheter is positioned so that the tip is directed toward the opening of the selected fallopian tube.
The processed sperm sample is then slowly introduced through the catheter, concentrating it near the targeted area.
The catheter is gently removed, and you typically rest for a short period before leaving the office.
